has anyone noticed that the 90's is having a revival? (if a very controversial one) Take a visit to your nearest American Apparel or the cobra shop and you'll see exactly what i mean. Pink, fluffy keyrings and angora jumpers should definitley not still be around, but somehow they are-and it really works!
I love the sense of humour in parading your inner tackiness (see bedazzled phone cases and miu miu sparkle) whilst having the reasurement that you're managing to pull it off. After all, there can be no denying that there's an inevitable positivity around those seeing the world through literal rose-tinted glasses.
Saying this, the line between wardrobe humour and of those who simply have never ventured out of the 90's, is very fine.
I don't know if i can be fully trusted, but here are my tips for chanelling your inner cluelessness:
1) Keep it understated by mixing in modern acessories-or by donning a modern centrepiece and dressing it up with fun acessories.
2) Choose your outfit wisely-some trends can be really unflattering. show extra caution around aerobic-wear, baggy sports jumpers, dungarees, backwards caps, high-wasted jeans, crop tops, long skirts and high leg swimsuits.
3) know yourself. Although baggy was cool, it can completely hide your figure. 90's bright colours are not for the faint-hearted and the murky, grunge colours can be equally as washing-out.
4) When approaching the scrunchie, take care. It's back-as recently confirmed by Cara Delevinge-but a full on hair scrape-back admittedly doesn't suit many.
5) Take inspiration from Cher Horowitz, Kelly and Donna-90210, Azealia banks, Eliza Doolittle and Riley Keough.
6) Keep fur and feathers chic by choosing minimal makeup and keeping the rest of your look simple.
7) Be able to laugh at yourself-your outfit will scream playfullness, so live up to the expectation! Hold your head up high, believe that you look amazing-I'm sure you will!
Love from Dido xx
